Can anyone recommend an entry level remote flash? I don't need anything fancy and am working with a Nikon D3100.

i've used the yongnuo 603 ones and they work actually very good for the money.

but there are now also a lot of pocket wizard clones out there, so i would try to read up about those.

as for flashes, if you want to go the way and learn to shoot manual, get a old second hand sunpack thyristor flash that produces light, just a little less than the sun.
i love these things and you find them on ebay for 30$

Yo I've got a bunch of old Nikon speedlights (sb28dx, sb26 etc) I can ship you if you want them. Pretty sure they still work and they might even have built in slaves. You still in Dallas?

Really? That'd be awesome! I'll trade you a Raspberry Pi if you want.
